What is the Best Energy Star Window Air Conditioner Unit

The heat is back on as summer draws nearer and nearer. This is the time when the indoors is a better place to stay than outdoors, because you can keep cool inside with the installation of window air conditioners.

A window air conditioner is better than a central air conditioner if you don´t have that big a place or you only want to have an air conditioner for one room, like the bedroom, for example. It is easier to install than central air conditioners. It´s also less wasteful and is definitely a cheaper alternative.

While air conditioners are great in keeping us cool, they still do have some consequences. A lot of an average person´s electrical bill during the summer is increased mainly because of air conditioners. It takes a lot of power to take out the hot air from the room and bring cool air back in. Unfortunately, older air conditioning models are very inefficient. This is not only because their designs are not at par with modern, more energy-friendly designs, but also because their parts may be worn down and not operating optimally anymore. In this case, then the best thing to do is to buy a new window air conditioner.

When comparing air conditioners, you have to take note of a lot of things. Look for air conditioners that don´t produce much noise. Air conditioners´ “silent” kind of noise actually contributes to noise pollution. In some cases, noisy air conditioners can even disrupt your sleep with its constant buzzing.

Look for the capacity of the air conditioner. You don´t want a large-capacity air conditioner in a small room, or vice versa. Either way, it´s just a waste of energy. It´s always a good idea to roughly measure your room and check for air conditioners that can work with that.

Also, check if the air conditioner has an Energy Star rating, and what its energy efficiency ratio is. Here´s an interesting note: air conditioners without Energy Stars are just as expensive as ones with Energy Star. So the better choice is definitely the one with the Energy Star logo. In fact, it may even save you much more in electricity in the future.

Lastly, check to see if the insulation in your home is working properly. Sometimes the reason why a lot of energy is spent by air conditioners is because the house or room has poor insulation. This means it´s easy for the coolness to seep out of the insulation, as well as hot air being absorbed into the room. During instances like these, because the cool air doesn´t circulate exclusively in that particular room, then the air conditioner has to make up for it by working harder to achieve the thermostat. This means having to use up more energy, of course.

Before the hot season starts, it´s always good to finally invest on a window air conditioner so you can keep cool and cozy during the summer. As long as you follow these tips, you won´t go wrong.
